In 1894, Joseph Neyer, Sr., a Cincinnati carpenter who
learned his craft from his German family members, had a hand in building many of
Cincinnati’s landmark churches and schools during the late 1800’s. The company
incorporated as Joseph Neyer, Inc. in 1918, and for the next 30 years, continued
to concentrate on building schools, churches, and public works buildings. In
1947, Joseph’s son, Joseph Jr., and grandson, Alphonse, (Al) reincorporated the
company as Al. Neyer, Inc.
Al Neyer’s sons, Ray, Don and Tom joined the firm in the
1950’s. Although the company still concentrated on construction for schools,
churches and public works buildings, it began integrating an occasional
commercial project. In the 1960’s and 1970’s, the company emphasis shifts
further toward commercial and industrial construction and real estate
development. The original Beechmont Mall was our largest project ever at
that time.
Al. Neyer purchased its first land for commercial
development in 1963, a 20-acre tract in Fairfax. With this first
industrial park, we began to establish design-and-build standards for industrial
facilities. In 1969, just six years after its introduction, the Neyer Industrial
Park in Fairfax is fully developed. Al. Neyer retired that year, and sons
Ray, Don and Tom assumed management of the firm. The company continued to grow,
and a 4th and 5th generation of Neyers join the business in the 1970’s and
1980’s.
Then, in 2004, the most significant change for Neyer Construction, Inc.
occurred when we created our own brand identity, including a new corporate
logo and slogan, and relocated to the original Red Bank Road offices.
