Facility Benefits Children with Disabilities and Surrounding Community

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is rated among the top five children’s hospitals in the country by Child magazine. Founded in 1883, Cincinnati Children’s provides family-centered care and pioneering research into pediatric medical care.

The hospital’s growing medical practices serving children with disabilities were bursting at the seams. The Avondale neighborhood just across Burnet Avenue from Cincinnati Children’s needed a major investment to jump start development after decades of decline. The new medical office building would be among the first steps taken in the Burnet Avenue Revitalization master plan.

DNK Architects and Al. Neyer partnered to refine and implement the planned revitalization led by Cincinnati Children’s investment. DNK Architects designed the new medical offices for the best in care and most convenience for young patients and their families. DNK also addressed the need for architectural transition from the institution’s campus to a neigh-borhood setting.

Al. Neyer delivered construction services, holding all subcontracts and fielding a team of experienced project managers and on-site superintendents. DNK Architects and Al. Neyer also took the initiative to work with the Avondale Community Council to recruit area residents for entry-level and trade jobs on the site as well as subcontracts. The Cincinnati Children’s project represents a big step in the right direction for the children who pass through its doors every day, the medical professionals who serve them, and the residents of the Burnet Avenue neighborhood.
